Natasha Grey-Brookes, National Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement, Attends Historic Opening of the 13th Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – May 24, 2025 – Natasha Grey-Brookes, the National Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), the major opposition political party in St. Kitts and Nevis, attended the ceremonial opening of the First Session of the 13th Republican Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago today, Friday, May 23, 2025.
The historic event, held at the Parliament’s Red House in Por of Spain, marked a significant moment in the region’s democratic landscape: the commencement of a new parliamentary term under the leadership of the recently elected Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honorable Kamala Persad-Bissessar. The ceremony brought together regional leaders, dignitaries, and political representatives, fostering dialogue on Caribbean unity and democratic governance.
During the ceremony, Ms. Grey-Brookes had the honour of meeting and being introduced to Trinidad and Tobago’s recently elected Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who was sworn in on May 1, 2025, following a landslide victory by her United National Congress (UNC) party in the April 28, 2025 General Elections. This marks Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s second term in office, having previously served from 2010 to 2015.
Mrs. Grey-Brookes had the distinguished opportunity to meet and engage with Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar, discussing shared priorities for regional development and cooperation.
Mrs. Grey-Brookes also met Barbados Prime Minister, the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, who serves as the Chairwoman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Prime Minister Mottley, a prominent regional leader and the first woman to lead Barbados,who was also in attendance to celebrate the democratic milestone and to reaffirm the strong ties between CARICOM member states.
Mrs Grey-Brookes interaction with the esteemed Prime Minister of Barbados, reinforces the importance the Peoples Action Movement places in the collaboration among Caribbean nations in addressing our common challenges.
The opening session, presided over by President Christine Kangaloo, featured an address calling for swift action on artificial intelligence legislation, highlighting the region’s opportunity to lead in proactive technology regulation.
Reflecting on the occasion, Mrs. Grey-Brookes stated, “It was a privilege to witness this historic moment and to engage with Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and Prime Minister Mottley. Their leadership exemplifies the strength and resilience of Caribbean women in politics. I look forward to fostering deeper ties between St. Kitts and Nevis and our regional partners as we work together to address critical issues such as economic development, security, and regional integration. This gathering underscores the strength of Caribbean solidarity, and I look forward to continued partnerships that advance the interests of our people.” As the leader of the major opposition party in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mrs. Grey-Brookes’ participation highlights her and the Peoples Action Movement’s commitment to regional diplomacy and progressive governance. Her presence at this significant event further solidifies PAM’s role as an advocate for regional integration and sustainable development.
